“Who do people say that the Son of Man is?" Jesus asks his disciples. Talk about a tough question. The Good News for us, however, is that we know the answer. And why? Because we have been taught. As the summer draws to a close, perhaps we can take a quiet moment to thank those who have taught us the faith, even if our precious teachers have passed to eternal life. They can pray and teach us even from there: that’s what it means to be a saint!
This past week, I convened my first meeting with our newly appointed Finance Council. Canon (Church) Law requires every parish to have an active Finance Council; the Archdiocese of New York mandates that FCs meet at least quarterly and assist the Pastor in such matters as preparing the budget, monitoring the cost of on-going maintenance, developing a plan for managing parish debt, and safeguarding the overall financial state of the parish. I most grateful to those who have said
yes to this call!
Speaking of saying yes: now that the school year is about to begin, we can get back into a groove when it comes to Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, and Altar Servers. The thing is, we need your help (they don’t, in fact, grow on trees). Here’s a challenge: can every family pray this week and decide on perhaps
one person in their household to volunteer for these vital ministries?
Please pray for me and know that I’m always praying for you!
Fr. Matt
